From parliament to peace to a new play: the Australian Baha’i Report
April edition of the “Australian Baha’i Report”

The latest issue of the Australian Baha’i Report tells how federal MPs from both sides of the main political divide joined forces recently to call for an end to the persecution of Baha’is in Iran.

The publication also describes a visit to Australia by prominent Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari, and how his documentary To Light a Candle attracted sympathetic audiences throughout the country.

Other stories about Baha’i activities include an account of an event held in Sydney where speakers from a range of religions spoke on the role of religion in advancing gender equality.

Among the other stories:

  • An actor receives an enthusiastic reception in Adelaide for her performances of a play she co-wrote about the Persian poet Tahirih, an early advocate of the rights of women
  • At a dinner party organised for an ABC TV show, young Baha’is in Melbourne discuss attitudes to drinking alcohol
  • A speaker on the Gold Coast urges interfaith participants to see themselves as part of something bigger than their own organisation.
  • An education researcher in Brisbane calls for the inclusion of spiritual content in peace education
