Dockers star Luke McPharlin provided upliftment at a function in Perth on 12 November but it had nothing to do with the leaps that have won him fame in the Australian Football League.

A member of the Western Australian Baha’i Community, Luke performed two of his original musical items as part of a joyous program to celebrate the Holy Day commemorating the birth of Baha’u’llah.

The program also included an address by Professor Duane Varan, who spoke about the life of Baha’u’llah, the aims of the Baha’i Faith, and the programs offered by the Baha’i community that nurture spiritual virtues among children and youth.

Dignitaries and other guests then joined their hosts for a banquet, with local Baha’i youth volunteers serving as waiters.

Among those attending were State MP Mr Peter Abetz, his wife Mrs Jenny Abetz, Ms Marissa Verma and Ms Laurel Nannup from Djidi Djidi Aboriginal Women’s Group, Councillors Clive Robertson and Effie Nicholson from the City of Melville, and representatives from other faith communities in Western Australia.

Similar events were held throughout Australia.

A special service commemorating the Holy Day was held at the Baha’i House of Worship in Sydney.
