Service for National Refugee Week
The Baha’i Temple choir will perform at the National Refugee Week service

A public service at the Baha’i Temple this Sunday, 20 June, will be an opportunity to express appreciation for the warm welcome received in Australia by Baha’i refugees escaping from religious persecution in Iran.

“It is also a time to focus attention on the situation of millions of other refugees around the world who have been forced to leave their countries to escape from persecution and conflict,” said Natalie Mobini, a spokesperson for the Australian Baha’i Community.

“We welcome members of the public to join us at this event to celebrate National Refugee Week and World Refugee Day,” Dr Mobini said.

The service, which begins at 11 am, will feature readings from the sacred Scriptures of the world’s religions and a capella singing by the popular Baha’i Temple choir.

Following the service, a reception will be held in the visitors’ centre from 12.00 noon to 1.00 pm.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a screening and discussion of the DVD “Long Road Home”.

It tells the story of the return home of a Cambodian refugee family after 20 years, and a visit to Cambodia by Australian athletes Daniel Kowalski, Kate Slatter, and Hamish MacDonald as representatives for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
