{"id":1374,"date":"2016-09-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/news\/youth-link-interfaith-experience-to-peace\/"},"modified":"2023-07-11T08:10:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T08:10:00","slug":"youth-link-interfaith-experience-to-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/youth-link-interfaith-experience-to-peace\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth link interfaith experience to peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/Portals\/0\/IDP%202016.jpg\" alt=\"Youth link interfaith experience to peace\" \/><figcaption>Youth link interfaith experience to peace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Three members of the <em>Youth Parliament of World Religions<\/em> steering team outlined the aims and outcomes of that gathering when they spoke at a reception following a special service at the Baha\u2019i Temple in Sydney on 18 September 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The service was held to mark the International Day of Peace which is observed worldwide on 21 September.<\/p>\n<p>Introducing the organisers at a reception after the service, Australian Baha\u2019i Community representative Venus Khalessi said Baha\u2019is recognise interfaith activity as important to the peace building process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a celebration of our spiritual oneness, and the desire to pave the path of peace in a spirit of unity and compassion,\u201d Mrs Khalessi said.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the eight members of Youth Parliament steering group addressed the reception.They were from the Islamic community, Uniting Church and Bah\u00e1\u2019\u00ed community.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Youth Parliament of World Religions<\/em> is an initiative of the Columban Mission Institute. It is a multi-faith youth event planned by young people from different religions, aiming to bring together people aged 17 to 35 from different religions to share and celebrate diversity, engage in multi-faith dialogue and give young people a voice and vote in shaping Australia\u2019s multi-religious, multicultural society.<\/p>\n<p>The topic of this year\u2019s event, held in Sydney on 3 September, was &#8220;Towards a more compassionate and just society.\u201d The program consisted of talks by young speakers from eight different religions, cultural and religious performances, small group discussions, voting, and socialising.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Collective commitment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A major collective commitment made by the participants was to educate themselves about different faiths and to work with friends from different religious communities to bring about constructive change.<\/p>\n<p>During the service that preceded the reception, the three panelists read excerpts from their religions\u2019 sacred scriptures as did Professor Nihal Agar, President of the Hindu Council of Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Another special guest at the service and reception was Debbie Scholem, who attended the service on behalf of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.10154074256858068.1073741840.264834653067&amp;type=1&amp;l=937f81721d\">View photos from the reception<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Youth.PoWR\/?fref=ts\">Visit the Facebook page for the <em>Youth Parliament of World Religions<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/peaceday\/\">Read more about the International Day of Peace<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three members of the Youth Parliament of World Religions steering team outlined the aims and outcomes of that gathering when they spoke at a reception following a special service at the Baha\u2019i Temple in Sydney on 18 September 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":13,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1374","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-media-releases","category-uncategorised"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.2 -
