{"id":1358,"date":"2008-04-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/news\/awards-for-promoting-harmony\/"},"modified":"2017-10-14T04:48:16","modified_gmt":"2017-10-14T04:48:16","slug":"awards-for-promoting-harmony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/awards-for-promoting-harmony\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards for promoting harmony"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/Portals\/0\/NT%20multicultural%20awards%202008%201.JPG\" alt=\"Awards for promoting harmony\" \/><figcaption>Awards for promoting harmony<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aiden Mitchell (second from left) and Joseph Gordon (third from left) with fellow award recipients<\/p>\n<p>Three Baha\u2019is have received government awards for their work promoting multicultural understanding and harmony.<\/p>\n<p>Aiden Mitchell and Joseph Gordon of Palmerston, Northern Territory, were among the four recipients of the 2008 Charles See Kee Awards, the premier multicultural awards in the Territory.<\/p>\n<p>The awards recognise individuals, organisations and initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to advancing multiculturalism and counteracting racism in the Territory.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mitchell, 18, was the winner of the individual (under 25) category for his participation in a broad range of community events and activities as well as his community service work.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Gordon received the award for the Initiative category. He was the coordinator of the \u201cHarmony Wall\u201d project in which hundreds of volunteers created a large mural depicting the life and spirit of the city of Palmerston.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NT Government established the Charles See Kee Awards to recognise the tireless efforts by people in our community to promote harmony,\u201d said Matthew Bonson, NT Minister Assisting the Chief Minister on Multicultural Affairs, who presented the awards at the NT Parliament House in Darwin to mark Harmony Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unity in diversity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in New South Wales, Dubbo Baha\u2019i Nasser Sedghi received the annual Community Service Award presented by the Community Relations Commission for a Multicultural NSW.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sedghi is well known as a driving force behind Dubbo\u2019s annual Multicultural Festival. He was selected from more than 150 nominees across the State.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the award ceremony held at the NSW Parliament House in March, Mr Sedghi said: \u201cI am very grateful to the Dubbo Baha\u2019i Community for its continuous support and assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sincerely dedicate and share this award with the people of Dubbo for their support and tolerance, and the opportunity given to me to work towards promotion of a harmonious community and unity in diversity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three Baha\u2019is have received government awards for their work promoting multicultural understanding and harmony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":13,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1358","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-media-releases","category-uncategorised"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.2 -
