{"id":1163,"date":"2008-05-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-05-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/news\/delegates-elect-international-governing-body\/"},"modified":"2017-10-14T04:49:04","modified_gmt":"2017-10-14T04:49:04","slug":"delegates-elect-international-governing-body","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/index.php\/delegates-elect-international-governing-body\/","title":{"rendered":"Delegates elect international governing body"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bahai.org.au\/Portals\/0\/international%20convention%20delegate%20voting.JPG\" alt=\"Delegates elect international governing body\" \/><figcaption>Delegates representing the Baha&#8217;is of the world cast their ballots for the nine members of the Universal House of Justice.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Members of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha\u2019is of Australia, together with their counterparts from some 170 other countries, have elected the governing body of the Baha\u2019i Faith.<\/p>\n<p>Those elected are: Farzam Arbab, Kiser Barnes, Peter Khan, Hooper Dunbar, Firaydoun Javaheri, Paul Lample, Payman Mohajer, Shahriar Razavi, and Gustavo Correa.<\/p>\n<p>The delegates attending the Tenth International Baha\u2019i Convention cast their ballots on 29 April and the results were announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Among those elected was an Australian, Dr Peter Khan, who has served as a member of the Universal House of Justice since he was first elected in 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Khan, born in Australia, held professorial posts in electrical engineering at universities in the United States and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>He served as an Auxiliary Board member, a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha&#8217;is of Australia, and a Continental Counsellor before being appointed to the International Teaching Centre, which has its Seat in Haifa.<\/p>\n<p>The Universal House of Justice, an institution called for by Baha&#8217;u&#8217;llah, the Founder of the Faith, was first elected in 1963.
