in neighbourhood community development activities that are open to all regardless of faith, age or background.<\/p>\n<p>Education of children and youth is very important to our community, which is why we have prioritised a growing number of programs for children\u2019s classes in State Schools and neighbourhoods, as well as spiritual empowerment programs for junior youth aged 11-14.<\/p>\n<p>For youth we run programs which encourage them to make a contribution to the advancement of society. Another priority is a number of gatherings that strengthen the devotional life of the community, and study circles on a variety of spiritual themes.<\/p>\n<p>Baha\u2019is have been foundational members and continue to take leadership in interfaith activities and councils in Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>There are Baha\u2019is in most urban and regional centres in Queensland, ranging from Thursday Island in the north to Stanthorpe in the south, and as far inland as Mt Isa. Queensland has 23 Local Spiritual Assemblies, who look after the affairs of the Baha\u2019i community in various parts of the State.<\/p>\n<p>At the regional level the first Baha\u2019i Council of Queensland was formed in 2001 and has its base of activities at the Baha\u2019i Centre for Learning in Milton, Brisbane. This centre also serves a large number of community meetings and activities.<\/p>\n<p>The Queensland Baha\u2019i community in Queensland dates back to 1926, when the first Baha\u2019is in Australia, Clara and Hyde Dunn, made their first visit to the State. In his work as a travelling salesman, Hyde Dunn visited most towns north as far as Cairns, and nearly a thousand kilometres inland. By 1928 a small Baha\u2019i group existed in Brisbane, attracted by the Dunns\u2019 public talks and other activities.
