Equality of men and women

We work to establish the equality of women and men as part of our efforts to help build a global civilisation based on justice, peace and collective prosperity.

We encourage the full participation of women and men in all aspects of community life, including learning, leadership and decision-making.

Women and men serve alongside each other in the national, state and local governing bodies of the Australian Baha'i Community as well as in grassroots community development activities across the country.

Our educational programs for adults, junior youth and children incorporate a commitment to equality of the sexes, peace and universal human rights. Our grassroots programs are helping women and girls to realise their full potential.

The Australian Baha'i Community works in partnership with government and non-government organisations to advance equality.  This work focuses on the elimination of domestic violence, the role of men and boys in achieving equality, women and peace, the role of women in development, and the education and status of girls.

We engage in dialogue with other organisations and individuals who are working to advance the equality of women and men. We participate in a wide range of consultative forums and networks including the Equality Rights Alliance, the Asia-Pacific Women, Faith and Development Alliance and the Australian Council for International Development Gender Equity Working Group. We send representatives to the annual sessions of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

We support International Women's Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (White Ribbon Day).

The Australian Baha'i Community publishes statements and makes submissions on issues related to the equality of women and men.
